From Big-Firm Attorney to Hanover’s Go-To for Family Estate Planning
After working at a large, national law firm, Michael Berdan left to focus his practice on individuals and families. Determined to offer a better way, he founded Berdan Law in Hanover to provide families with straightforward, relationship-driven estate planning and a limited amount of litigation practice. Now exclusively focused on estate planning, Berdan Law is a boutique practice that puts clients’ needs first. Today, every person who walks through the door is treated with care, respect, and the confidence that comes from working with a neighbor.
Our Attorneys
Michael Berdan, Founder and Principal Attorney
Born on the west coast, Michael came to Virginia to attend law school at UVA. The family decided to stay in the Commonwealth, settling in Hanover County during his third year of law school. They still live on a twelve-acre property a short drive from Ashland, with their three young boys, dog, cat, chickens, ducks, bunnies, and donkeys. Michael loves the arts - film, theatre, and books, in particular - and his first car, a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle, which he still owns today, and which you might see zooming around the county on a nice spring or fall day.
Tyler Hawks, Associate Attorney
Originally from Williamsburg, Virginia, Tyler graduated from Hampden-Sydney College and the Regent University School of Law,
and now lives right here in Ashland. He has over 8 years of experience in estate planning with an empathetic, client-first approach. Tyler loves history, music, and frequent visits to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He moved to Ashland in 2017 and enjoys working on his home in the historic district. You will likely see Tyler walking his beloved dog, Tollie, around Randolph-Macon College’s campus.
